The National Trust asked us to help them bring their Time + Space award winners ideas to life online. Emily was the winner in the Art and Culture category. Her Idea: to encourage people to contribute to a an interactive map of free-to-visit historically significant places, to ensure that everyone has the resources to connect with the past.

The Brief

Overview

The Time + Space Award has been inspired by what Newton called his ‘year of wonders’. The National Trust provide winners the time, space and opportunity to develop their big idea in each of their four areas – science, nature and climate, society and art and culture.

The Need

Historic sites can be expensive to visit or hidden and you might not know about them unless you’ve learned about them, meaning that not everyone can access them. Emily wanted a platform that would advertise hidden gems across the UK with emotional context.

Our Challenge

Emily’s wanted to highlight emotionally significant places on a community map. On the map, users will be able to comment on geographic points and add details about moments in their lives, creating a tapestry of meaningful moments and community.

The concept

Using digital memory mapping via user-generated content, Making Place In Time transforms physical locations into meaningful, lived experiences – connecting personal memories, community history, and physical spaces to create a sense of belonging and meaning.

Making place in time concept

Our solution

We created a website that combined form and function, taking the brand developed by Ideas for Good to combine subtle movement to enhance the storytelling aspect with a user experience that was intuitive and rewarding.

Map onboarding

What we did

We designed and developed an immersive, story-led website that uses thoughtful layout, typography, and visual storytelling to guide users through placing a pin on the interactive map, adding a piece of their personal history to a growing mosaic of moments that define the world as they experienced it.
